Pool Station 3.0 and Classic
|
 |
StationSoftware.com has created two different versions of Pool Station, which we combine into a single review here. Pool Station 3.0 is a newer, easier aimer whereas Pool Station Classic is older, with more features and more complexity. Both aimers are almost as good as XAimer on most systems. Some systems did indicate Pool Station could be more accurate than XAimer.

Pool Station Overview
We really don't have a preference over either version of Pool Station. Both seemed to operate essentially the same. It is a very nice aimer and in some cases it may be superior to XAimer. If you play other games, Station Software offers a few cheats for Literati and Yahoo cards so you may be able to get this program as part of a larger package.
Appearance
Pool Station looks nicer than most other aimers, with the possible exception of XAimer. Pool Station 3.0 and Pool Station Classic seem to have the same basic interface and the same images available for bank images. An interesting feature is the dropdown box listing all of your current games and the ability to cycle through games without changing screens.
Accuracy
Pool Station Classic and Pool Station 3.0 seem to aim the same for us, but we've heard other people experience different results for each. The test results indicated Pool Station was essentially just as accurate as XAimer (both versions of Pool Station). Pool Station could identify close shots other aimers could not, which possibly gives it a small edge.
The "prediction-table" was not very accurate in Classic and looks to have been disabled in version 3.0. You can still see the positions of the balls on the table for each version.
Features
Both Pool Stations seem to have the same or a very similar backdoor feature XAimer has. This is a nice addon and actually looks nicer than most programs designed just to serve as backdoors to Yahoo.
Pool Station Classic needs to be calibrated. Some players may consider this annoying while others see it as an advantage because you can recalibrate the program if it seems off for any reason. We never noticed any difference between the two versions and recalibrating seems to have no effect for us.
Since a Pool Station registration extends to both Pool Station 3.0 and Pool Station Classic, this may be considered a better "buy" than XAimer, even though XAimer received a slightly better rating on our scale. Two aimers for the same price of one is a great deal.
