Yahoo Pool Aimers
The Current Top Aimer is... XAimer
According to our personal preferences and the results of our accuracy tests, XAimer is the best aimer you can currently get. The accuracy of most aimers seem to be nearly the same, while each seemed to perform differently on different system and against different shots. No aimers were perfect all of the time, but the top aimers consistently performed better in most situations. XAimer was able to calculate pocket rim banks and combo shots better than those we tested.
Appearance set XAimer far ahead of the other aimers. It was able to recognize the colors of the balls and had the best table-predictor we could find on any other application. Pool Station Classic and Pool Station 3.0 had similar graphics which were nice, but not as appealing as XAimer.
XAimer and Pool Station 3.0 were the most stable aimers. They had no problem handling multiple games on every system. Pool Station Classic had periodic freezing issues and others had common crashes on various systems. Windows 98 experienced terrible crashing with others.
Other aimers were examined, but they were not nearly up to the standards of the reviewed programs. For these, a simple notecard or book would make a better pool aimer.
How many people use pool aimers?
According to download statistics, it is estimated nealy 80% of all players in Yahoo Pool are using an aimer of some sort. Virtually anyone who plays in a league or on a consistent basis has tried an aimer - because they are so useful, they most often use them regularly.
Years ago, only a select few of the best players had access to a custom aiming program and dominated yahoo pool. Later, aimers became public and exploded in popularity as players became aware of these new "cheats". Today, most players know aimers exist and how to get them. Those not using aimers are in the minority.
Ever see someone sink a multiple bank shot? Trick combo shots? Wonder how someone gets those high ratings? You can bet they had a little help.
How the ranks are calculated
Aimers are tested on their ease of use, appearance, features, and most importantly - their accuracy. Appearance is subjective, but we are confident anyone who fairly examines each aimer will agree with our conclusions. Accuracy is determined using a macro-processing program, which set balls on a practice table in different patterns. We then used each aimer to predict the outcome of each shot and ranked each according to the prediction vs result of the shot.
